Red Bull Rampage 2021

The Red Bull Rampage 2021 marks the 20th anniversary of the mountain bike event, and held the 15th times. Red Bull Rampage is a free-ride mountain bike event where mountain bike athletes showcase their skills, and tricks by riding down high mountains and ridges in one piece. They must impress a judging panel with their physic capacity, skill, and mental fortitude on a mountain bike. It is a competition beyond sports borders, it pushes mountain bike riders to think beyond the limits of bike riding. The riders ride on dry sandstone dirt, and mountainsides characterized by cliffs and near-vertical chutes. It’s a spectacular and exciting event. Part 1: Location and Terrain of the 2021 Red Bull Rampage Competition

The Rampage Red Bull 2021 took place near the little town of Virgin in Utah, the world’s best mountain bike athletes descended on a new venue in celebration of the 20th anniversary of the free ride competition, on October 15, 2021.

The terrain is steep and exposed, with a huge mountain top. There are mandatory drops with exposed cliffs on either side of the riders called knoblin and Goblin respectively. The knoblin to the rider’s right side and the Goblin to the rider’s left. Individual athletes build these features. Although, it is off limits for others to ride as part of the unofficial diggers’ code of conduct.

The mountains where the events take place will usually change every few years, in order to enable riders to start afresh and carve out new lines.

The riders can choose their line down the mountain before the event begins.
The athletes dug and shaped lines and jumps on the mountain to make their ride down as smooth as possible because the terrain was not configured for them by the event planners.

The winner of the rampage Red Bull 2021 was Brandon Semenuk from Canada. He is a KMC athlete and professional freeride mountain biker. Besides, he won his fourth Red Bull Rampage, making him the first competitor to win the event back-to-back, with an unmatched four wins. He is also the first to land a tailwhip during a competition.

Kurt Sorge, also from Canada, emerged as the second runner-up.

Part 3: How the Red Bull MTB 2021 Athletes Were Selected

The Red Bull rampage 2021 has invited 15 athletes. Also, six of them were former Red Bull Rampage winners. The top ten riders from the previous competition were automatically prequalified for the event. Based on video submissions and competitions, a committee of pro athletes selected five wildcard athletes and five alternates, former Red Bull Rampage competitors, industry experts, and judges.

Among the 15 riders last year, there were two rookies.

There are some alternate athletes for the emergency that in case anyone dropped out of the event, or was unable to attend.

The invited athletes confirmed their attendance by the 27th of September.

The bike frame is a Custom built Trek Session 27.5″ / 26″ Mullet, with Maxxis Assegai 27.5 x 2.5″ EXO+ Maxx Grip front tire and the rear tire is
Maxxis Minion DHR2 26 x 2.4″ DH Casing Maxx Grip.

Also, his pedals, handlebar, stem, saddle, and grips use the brand Chromag.

Front brakes from SRAM Code RSC routed through Zeb steerer tube and rear brake SRAM Code RSC with extra-long brake hose for 3 full rotations of handlebars.

Besides, his bike shocks are a 270 PSI RockShox Super Deluxe Ultimate DH with MegNeg air can with 4.5 Positive tokens, 2 Bands Negative tokens, Rebound 5 clicks to closed, and LSC 9 clicks to closed.

The cranksets are a 165mm SRAM X01 DH DUB with a custom crank damper. Also, forks are 190mm RockShox ZEB Ultimate, with 44m offset, 3 Tokens, 63.5 PSI, HSC open, LSC 9 clicks to closed.
